Þingvellir Expect Significant Crowds This Weekend

Visitors planning to explore Þingvellir National Park this Friday, 20 June, should be aware of significant road closures and access restrictions due to the Bergmál music festival, which is expected to draw up to 20,000 people to the park throughout the day.

Road closures from 15:00

Police have requested temporary road closures on all major roads leading to and through the national park from 15:00 until midnight. Restrictions will be in place west of the Grafningur junction, at Miðfell to the east, and north of Þingvellir on Uxarhryggjarvegur. Heavy traffic is expected on Þingvallavegur throughout the day.

Access for general visitors

The Haki car park will be open to general visitors until 15:00. Walking routes through Almannagjá will be open from the viewpoint at Haki down to Lögberg/Drekkingarhylur, and from there eastward to Peningagjá/Flosagjá.

The following car parks and walking routes will be closed to general visitors and reserved for concert guests only:

  • Langistígur (P3)
  • Kastalar (P2)
  • Valhöll (P5)
  • Almannagjá north of Lögberg towards Kastalar and Öxarárfoss

For tour operators

Operators with passengers may drop guests at Haki and wait there, or collect passengers at Flosagjá/Peningagjá (P4). One-way traffic will operate eastbound out of the park on Road 361 along the lake. Note that Road 361 is accessible to coaches only.

Visitors are encouraged to plan their visit accordingly and allow extra time for travel. A map of road closures is also available on the Þingvellir National Park website.
