One of Iceland's most respected contemporary songwriters, Jónas Sigurðsson first gained recognition with the band Sólstrandagæjarnir before embarking on a highly successful solo career. His breakthrough solo album, Þar sem malbikið svífur mun ég dansa (Where the Asphalt Floats, I Will Dance), released in 2007, established him as one of the country's most distinctive musical voices. He has since collaborated with the Þorlákshöfn Brass Band, from his hometown, creating music that seamlessly blends intimate songwriting with rich instrumental arrangements.
Renowned for his poetic lyrics, expressive voice, and memorable melodies, Jónas creates music that is deeply rooted in Icelandic culture while speaking to universal themes of love, memory, longing, and belonging. His concerts are celebrated for their warmth, sincerity, and emotional depth.
Opening the evening is Markús Bjarnason, an accomplished Icelandic songwriter and performer who has been an active presence in the country's independent music scene for many years. He has fronted bands including Sofandi and Skátar, while also developing an acclaimed solo career. Joined by his long-time backing band, The Diversion Session, he recently released a collection of new songs that has been warmly received by audiences.
Set against the beautiful surroundings of Stokkseyrarkirkja, this concert promises an evening of heartfelt songwriting, rich musicianship, and two outstanding artists representing the best of contemporary Icelandic music.
