Katla Geopark run - Hjörleifshöfði

Price description

Adults (15+): 2500. Kids under 15 y.o.: 1500.

The annual trail run around Hjörleifshöfði will take place on Thursday 23rd of April 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Hjörleifshöfði is a famous geosite within Katla Geopark and located about 15 km. east of Vík.

Distances
There are two trail options, 7 km and 11 km. Both trails begin and end at the same point. The first 7 km encircle Hjörleifshöfði on relatively flat, sandy ground. For those interested in a further challenge can continue another 3 km to the top of Hjörleifshöfði (221m), continuing back down to the starting point, a total run of about 11 km.

The time will be measured for all and results displayed by the age groups, see the following list:
• 14 years and younger
• 15-18 years
• 19-39 years
• 40-49 years
• 50-59 years
• 60 years og older

Register at the website www.hlaup.is until 20:00, Wednesday 22nd of April. Contact info@vik.is for assistance or further information if needed.


Participation fee
Participation fee is 2500 kr for 15 years and older and 1500 kr for 14 years and younger.
After the run a local restaurant invites participants to light refreshments and Mýrdalshreppur municipality offers free admission to the local swimming pool.

Prize
Everyone who participates and completes the run will receive a participation medallion.

Information
The running route around Hjörleifshöfði is beautiful, with stunning views of the whole area, black sand plains and beaches, Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the lush green mountains between.

From Reykjavík to Vík is about a 2,5 hour drive. There are various options of accomodation around Vík and as well within Katla Geopark.
